Protesting ICE raids isn’t the only way to help immigrant communities—there are many powerful and practical ways to make an impact. Keep reading to learn more about Richmond area organizations that can use your help.

Volunteer Your Time

Immigration legal aid organizations can use your help to translate, fill out forms, or provide administrative support.

Immigrants taking citizenship classes can also use your help. Volunteer as a tutor for English or Civics preparation. The agencies listed below can help guide you.

Use Your Skills

Are you bilingual? You can help interpret or translate documents.

Have a knack for social media? Raise awareness, share accurate information, and offer to manage pages for local nonprofits.

Do you have experience in Human Resources or Administration? You can assist immigrants with resumes, job applications, and workplace rights.

Help With Basic Needs

Donate essential items to migrant shelters, families going through court proceedings, or refugee programs.

Educate Others

Host or attend “Right to Know” trainings.

Organize community conversations at churches, schools, or libraries.

Do you have a story to tell? Share it to humanize the issue. And/or share it by writing a Letter to the Editor.

Support Nonprofits

Fundraise for or donate to organizations like RAICES, Immigrant Defenders Law Center, Al Otro Lado, or your local legal aid organization.

Help these organizations with clerical tasks, events, or translations – even virtually. Simply email them to see how you can assist!

Advocate

Write or call your representatives and urge them to support humane immigration policies.

Support immigrant-owned businesses and amplify their voices online.

“I am most passionate about getting rid of Donald Trump as our President because he does not know how to lead in the way that we expect him to. He’s cutting off so many funds and people with jobs that matter – in education, in health. He is just mowing it all down without giving it any thought it seems.”

“I am most passionate about the immigration issue because I’m an ESL teacher, so I know that my students are afraid to come to school and they should not be afraid to come to school – and most of them were born here! So, he’s trying to rip that away, and I know once he rips their citizenship away, it’s not long before they’re coming for the rest.”

Susan at Good Trouble Protest

“I would like to see democracy saved, I would like to see our Constitution adhered to, I would like to see Congress and the Supreme Court do their jobs. Congress and the Supreme Court handing everything to Trump to do with as he will is our biggest problem.”
